Tip-A-Cop Raises $5K for Special Olympics

Newport Beach police officers serve as celebrity waiters at the Yard House.

Newport Beach police's Tip-A-Cop event was very successful, a police official reported Monday.

On Wednesday Newport Beach police officers served as celebrity hosts and servers at the Yard House restaurant at Fashion Island. The $5,801 they collected in tips will go to support Special Olympics activities in Orange County.

"It was wonderful to see Police Department staff, Special Olympics Athletes, and Yard House staff all working together for a good cause," Jennifer Manzella, police spokeswoman, said. "The Yard House clientele had a blast, too, and were wonderfully kind and generous."

Several members of NBPD family ranging from the Chief to several police volunteers, canine officers, a motor officer and a SWAT officer also attended the event and mingled with community members.
