Tip-A-Cop Nets $6,000 for Special Olympics

Newport Beach police officers served as celebrity waiters.

The first annual Tip-A-Cop Event in Newport Beach was a tremendous success, a police official said today.

Newport Beach Police Department officers spent several hours Wednesday evening as celebrity hosts and servers at the Yard House restaurant at Fashion Island. The $6,011 they collected in tips will go to support Special Olympic activities in Orange County.

"We would like to thank the community for the tremendous support we received at the Yard House Tip-A-Cop event," Kathy Lowe, police spokeswoman, said. "We are truly grateful and look forward to working with Special Olympics Southern California in the future."
