Suspects Break into Locked Newport Homes

Two locked homes were recently broken into in Newport Beach, but in one case the suspect was scared off by an alarm, police reported.

A home on San Antonio was burglarized sometime between Dec. 20 and Dec. 22 when a suspect pried open a set of French doors. Once inside the home, the suspect locked the door leading from the garage to the house in an attempt to slow down the resident's entry into the house. Police said the suspect forced open a safe, and stole jewelry and money.

Police said the victims were out of town during the time of the burglary.

A house in the 1900 block of Port Provence was burglarized on the evening of Dec. 21 while the resident was out to dinner. The suspect tried to pry open a rear sliding glass door, and a locked garage door but fled when the home's alarm went off.

The suspect never made his way into the Port Provence home.
