Suspect Ransacks Newport Home

A burglar forces open the front door to a home on Via Xanthe in Newport Beach.

A suspect forced open the front door of a Newport Beach home this week and ransacked the residence, police reported.

The burglary took place Monday between 4 and 7:15 p.m. at a home in the 100 block of Via Xanthe. According to Newport Beach police, the door frame and deadbolt were damaged when the suspect forced entry into the home. After ransacking the house, the suspect stole a watch.

Police said a neighbor reported hearing a loud noise, and another neighbor saw a suspicious gray car with two men inside around 6 p.m.

No other information was available.
