13 Thefts From Cars Reported Over Last Week

In most of the incidents, thieves smashed car windows.

There have been 13 thefts from vehicles in Newport Beach over the past week, according to the Police Department.

The majority of the thefts involved a person smashing a vehicle window to access the valuables within. In one instance, a man was seen smashing the rear window of a car with a crowbar.  Three of the incidents, police said, involved unlocked vehicles.

In the wake of the rash of vehicle break-ins, the Police Department is reiterating its perennial parking advice: Remove or hide valuables. Lock the doors. Close the windows.
