Security at John Wayne Airport Stepped Up as 9/11 Attack Anniversary Nears

With the 10th anniversary of the attacks on Sept. 11, 2001, fast approaching, officials at John Wayne Airport said today that security would be increased over the weekend.

“Over this weekend, there will be elevated security and safety personnel on site,” said airport spokeswoman Jenny Wedge.

Wedge said there would be “nothing too out of the ordinary” regarding passenger arrival time and airport congestion, suggesting that passengers should continue to arrive an hour and a half to two hours prior to their flight.

“Passengers should continue to go about their routine travel plans and just give themselves plenty of time when traveling,” Wedge said.

As Sept. 11 approaches, U.S. officials have revealed that there have been recent concerns regarding possible car bomb attacks in New York City or Washington.

Wedge advises those traveling out of John Wayne Airport over the weekend to be cautious regarding any irregular activity.

“We encourage passengers to use their own vigilance and be aware of their surroundings,” Wedge said. “If anything looks out of the ordinary, report it.”
