Community Meeting to Address Rise in Crime

Today from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m., the Newport Beach Police Department will host a community meeting for residents who live in the areas of Newport Heights and Cliff Haven.

Residents are encouraged to attend a community meeting tonight to receive information about recent criminal activity in the areas of Newport Heights and Cliff Haven, a police official said.

The meeting will be held today from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. at , 301 Riverside Ave. Kathy Lowe, police spokeswoman, says the meeting was organized in order to keep residents in the loop about recent criminal activity in the area and to provide crime prevention tips.

"There has been an increase in criminal activity in that portion of the city so although we do these meetings often across the city, we also do them when we see an increase in burglaries and thefts from homes, garages and vehicles," Lowe explained.
