Residents Scare Off Car Thief

Newport Beach police say doors and windows to homes and cars should be locked at all times.

Burglars in Newport Beach kept busy in the days leading up to the holidays, police reported.

  • On Saturday, Dec. 15 between 8 and 11:15 p.m., an unknown suspect entered a home in the 100 block of E. Balboa Blvd. through an unlocked front door and stole the victim’s iPhone from the coffee table.
  • Police say on Saturday, Dec. 16 at 3:53 a.m. an unknown suspect tried to break into a car parked in the 100 block of 18th Street. According to police, the suspect fled when he realized witnesses were watching him.

Police say before you walk away from your car, take valuables out or hide them from plain sight. Remember car doors should be locked at all times, as well as windows and sunroofs.

Make sure doors and windows of homes are also locked at all times.
