A burglar broke into a Newport Beach house last week, but ran off when the resident confronted him, police reported.

The burglary took place on Friday at 11 a.m. at a home in the 3500 block of Geranium Avenue. According to police, the suspect broke the front door window, reached in and unlocked the door. The resident was in the back of the house, and heard the screen door slam shut. When the resident went to investigate the noise, police said he saw the suspect in the house and yelled at him to get out.

The suspect was described as a Caucasian man, about 28 years old, standing 5 feet 9 inches tall, with a medium build wearing a blue/grey hooded sweatshirt and pants.

The suspect fled out the front door without taking any items from the home.
