Resident Sees Burglar Fleeing House

The attempted residential burglary occurred Friday at a home on Mayflower Drive in Newport Beach.

An unknown suspect who allegedly tried to break into a house, ran off when the residents came home, Newport Beach police reported.

The attempted residential burglary occurred about 2:50 p.m. Friday at a home in the 200 block of Mayflower Drive. Kathy Lowe, police spokeswoman, says the resident could not confirm if the suspect ever entered the home and did not report anything missing.

"A resident arrived home and heard a loud noise to the rear of his residence," Lowe said. "He checked to see where the sound was coming from and saw a male fleeing from the porch at the rear of the home."
