Public's Help Sought in Identifying Bank Fraud Suspect

The man withdrew more than $8,000 after allegedly impersonating a bank customer.

Newport Beach police are asking for the public's help in identifying a man they say impersonated a bank customer and stole more than $8,000, a police official said Monday.

The man entered a bank in Newport Beach on July 20 and impersonated a customer and withdrew $4,000 from the account, authorities say. On the same day, he entered another bank in Costa Mesa and withdrew $4,500.00 from the same victim’s account, according to Kathy Lowe, police spokeswoman.

Police ask anyone with information about the man to call the Newport Beach Police Department’s 24-hour crime tip hotline at 800-550-NBPD. Tips can be anonymous.
