Woman Injured in Crash With Light Pole

The crash took place early Saturday on Dover Drive in Newport Beach.

A woman, who may have been under the influence of alcohol, was injured early Saturday when she lost control of her car, struck a light pole and ended up in the front yard of a Newport Beach home, officials reported.

The crash took place at about 6:47 a.m. near the intersection of Dover Drive and Harrow Place. Police said the woman was driving a Hyundai Tucson northbound on Dover when she lost control of her car.

"The vehicle stuck a light pole before entering the front yard of a residence, where it made contact with a tree and then came to rest with the driver’s side of the vehicle up against a retaining wall," Jennifer Manzella, police spokeswoman, said in a released statement.

Newport Beach police and fire responded to the crash and found the woman semi-conscious, but trapped inside the car. NBFD personnel used an extrication tool on the passenger side of the car to get the woman out, Manzella said.

She was in stable condition and transported to a local trauma center.

"At this point, alcohol appears to be a contributing factor, but the collision is still under investigation," Manzella said.
