Is Your Child's Digital Footprint Safe?

On Friday the Newport Beach Police Department is hosting a free Internet Safety meeting at the Newport Coast Community Center.

Nowadays children constantly go online and Newport Beach police want to make sure parents are aware of the dangers lurking behind the computer screen.

Tomorrow from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m., parents are encouraged to attend a free presentation at the Newport Coast Community Center to learn how to keep kids safe online. Scott Burnett, of Integrity Computer Concepts, will be the guest speaker and will talk to parents about Facebook, phones, iPads, computers and much more.

Kathy Lowe, police spokeswoman, says parents should take advantage of the safety presentation because it offers an opportunity for them to gain insight into the digital footprint their children are creating online.

"The internet provides a wonderful tool for learning, however it can also open the door to predators who prey upon children," Lowe said. "It is extremely important that parents closely monitor their child’s online activity."

The meeting will be held at the Newport Coast Community Center, 6401 San Joaquin Hills Road. If you would like to attend, RSVP to rsvp@nbpd.org.
