Crime Alert Issued for Greenbelt Burglaries

Eight homes in Corona del Mar, each near greenbelts or with a slope at the back of the property, were recently burglarized, police reported.

Several homes in Corona del Mar were recently burglarized, prompting Newport Beach police to issue a crime alert for the neighborhood.

According to police, eight home burglaries occurred between December and March at homes near greenbelts, or that have a slope along the rear of the house.

  • A home on Shoreview was burglarized sometime between Dec. 24 at 4 p.m. and Jan. 7 at 11:30 a.m. Police said the burglar pried open a second story bathroom window and stole jewelry, watches, a cashmere sweater, passport and a social security card.
  • On Jan. 18 about 6:35 p.m. a home on San Mateo Way was burglarized. According to police, the burglar smashed a second story bathroom window. The loss was not yet determined.
  • A home on Cameo Shores Road was burglarized on Feb. 8. sometime between 12:55 and 4:33 p.m. Police said the burglar pried open a pedestrian door in the garage. Nothing was reported stolen.
  • On Feb. 13 between 10:30 a.m. and 10:59 p.m., a home in the 800 block of Sandcastle Drive was burglarized. There were no signs of forced entry. Police said the burglar used a hidden key to get inside. Nothing was reported stolen.
  • Sometime between March 8 at 5 p.m. and March 11 at 8 a.m., a home in the 1200 block of Outrigger Drive was burglarized. According to police, the burglar entered the home through an unlocked sliding glass door and stole an iPad.
  • Police said sometime between March 9 at 9:41 a.m. and March 10 at 8:50 a.m., a home in the 3700 block of Park Green Drive was burglarized. The burglar entered the home through an unlocked sliding glass door and stole a tote bag from the kitchen counter.
  • On March 15 between 6 and 9 p.m., a home in the 4500 block of Cortland Drive was burglarized. Police said the burglar forced open french doors in the rear master bedroom. Watches, jewelry and cuff links were reported stolen from the home.
  • A home in the 300 block of Hazel Drive was burglarized sometime between March 23 at 1 p.m. and March 24 at 1 p.m. According to police, the burglar entered the home through an unlocked front door. A flat screen TV, golf clubs, wetsuits, DVDs, a Blue Ray player, jewelry and money were stolen.
