Plane Headed to John Wayne Diverted After Evacuation Slide Deploys Mid-Air
Instead of landing locally, 101 passengers and crew aboard United flight 1463 were sent to Wichita, Kansas.
A United Airlines flight from Chicago's O'Hare Airport to John Wayne Airport in Santa Ana was diverted to Wichita, Kansas, tonight after the emergency evacuation slide accidentally deployed in the air, an airline official said.
United flight 1463 had 96 passengers and five crew members on board when the incident occurred, United spokeswoman Christen David said. It took off from O'Hare at 6:18 p.m. PDT and landed in Wichita at 8:36 p.m. PDT.
"The flight diverted to Wichita, Kansas, after the emergency evacuation slide accidentally deployed. Noone was injured and the flight landed safely," David said.

"We are providing hotel accommodations for our customers tonight," she said. "We are flying in another aircraft to resume the flight and get our customers to their final destination as quickly as possible."
All passengers were seated on the Boeing 737-700 when the slide deployed, she said.
