Update: Person Rescued, Two Officers Injured in CDM Fire

The victim was transported to Western Medical Center with unknown injuries. Two Newport Beach police officers were treated for minor injuries and released.

One person was rescued, and two Newport Beach police officers were injured Monday when a fire ripped through an apartment in Corona del Mar, fire officials reported.

The fire was reported about 2:38 p.m. at a two-story residence in the 600 block of Marguerite Avenue, according to Jennifer Schulz of the Newport Beach Fire Department.

The person, whose identity was not released, was transported to Western Medical Center with unknown injuries. Newport Beach police Sgt. Matt Hamilton said two police officers suffered from smoke inhalation, and one was treated for second degree-burns on his arm and neck.

"They were using chainsaws on the roof," Rebeca Muñoz, who witnessed the fire, told Patch. "Flames were coming out of the roof."

No other information was available. The cause of the fire is under investigation.
