Passerby Alerts Police to Home Burglary

A passerby saw a burglary take place at a home on Montecito Drive in Newport Beach.

A passerby saw a home burglary taking place recently in Newport Beach, and immediately called police.

The home burglary took place on Dec. 28, between 7 and 8 p.m., on Montecito Drive. According to police, the burglar entered the home by unknown means and rummaged through the master bedroom. While still inside the home, the burglar was seen by a passerby. According to police, the burglar was seen holding a flashlight and leaving in a black Chevy SUV, which was parked in front of the home.

The passerby called police, and when officers arrived they found both the front door and back sliding glass door open.

The burglar was described as a male Caucasian, standing about 6 feet tall, with a medium build, black hair, wearing a dark jacket and pants.
