O.C. Man Pleads Guilty to Grand Theft ATM

Richard Allen Clements would haul the automated teller machines off in his truck. He's expected to be sentenced to two years.

A 50-year-old Huntington Beach man pleaded guilty today to stealing automated teller machines by hauling them off with his truck.

Richard Allen Clements was charged with one felony count of grand theft of personal property. He is set to be sentenced on Mar. 10.

Under the terms of a negotiated plea agreement, Clements is expected to be sentenced to two years in county jail, according to Deputy District Attorney Lindsay Kurtis. Prosecutors said he will also be required to pay restitution.

Clements was caught on surveillance cameras placing straps around the cash machines and attaching the straps to his truck before driving off.

Some of the machines stolen held a few thousand dollars, according to prosecutors, who added that they were very expensive to repair or replace.
