Newport-Mesa Unified Instructional Aid Slain in Suspected Domestic Dispute

An instructional aide with the Newport-Mesa Unified School District was killed Tuesday in Costa Mesa during a suspected domestic dispute, according a statement from the school district.

Emily Ford worked in the preschool program at Paularino Elementary, the school district said. Employed with the district since 2007, Ford had also worked as a a special education instructional aide at Anderson and Mariners elementary schools in Newport Beach, the school district said.

The Daily Pilot reported that Ford, 32, and her father, 62-year-old Russell Ford, were shot to death in front of her ex-husband's house. Robert Lehmann, 36, was arrested Tuesday on suspicion of killing the two as they were picking up Ford and Lehmann's daughter, according to reports. The Orange County Register reported that Lehmann had lost custody of the seven year old girl hours before the shooting.

Counselors were at Paularino Elementary and Sonora Elementary, where Ford's daughter attends school, on Wednesday, the school district said.
