Newport Man Arrested After Apartment Fire

Bryan Ray Montgomery was charged with manufacturing a controlled substance.

A Newport Beach man was arrested this week on suspicion of manufacturing a controlled substance after he was burned in an , Newport Beach police reported.

On Sunday about 4:45 p.m. firefighters reponded to a fire in the 5000 block of Residencia. Bryan Ray Montgomery, 22, suffered significant burns and was taken to Western Medical Center for treatment. Police spokeswoman Kathy Lowe said Montgomery was later arrested.

"Evidence at the scene indicated that the male subject was manufacturing a controlled substance," Lowe said. "I’m not positive he was the resident there, but he was at the location of the fire when it occurred."
