A guest house caught fire Wednesday in Newport Beach, but no one was injured, authorities reported.

The fire started just after 11 a.m. at a one-story guest house in the 300 block of L Street on the Balboa Peninsula, according to Jennifer Manzella, spokeswoman for the Newport Beach Police Department.

Eight Newport Beach Fire Department units responded to the scene, and extinguished the fire within 20 minutes.

The fire was contained to the roof area of the guest house.

No injuries were reported, but the fire caused about $20,000 in damage to the guest house, Manzella said.

The cause of the fire was under investigation.
