Newport Driver Accused of Texting, DUI, Hit-Run

Teresa Lynn Hyde, 27, of Newport Beach, was allegedly westbound on State Route 91 driving about 90 miles per hour when her Lexus side-swiped another vehicle southwest of Redlands and Loma Linda, the California Highway Patrol reported.

A Newport Beach woman was allegedly under the influence, texting and speeding when she side-swiped another vehicle with her car Sunday night southwest of Redlands and Loma Linda.

She then tried to flee and missed an off-ramp, drove off the 91 Freeway in Riverside and overturned, according to the California Highway Patrol.

Teresa Lynn Hyde, 27, was not wearing a seat belt and she was ejected from her 2003 Lexus, ending up pinned beneath the vehicle, the CHP reported Monday.

Hyde was arrested on suspicion of felony DUI and felony hit-and-run and released to Riverside Community Hospital due to the severity of her injuries, according to the CHP.

The hit-and-run sequence began about 7:10 p.m. Aug. 19 when Hyde was driving her 2003 Lexus IS300 west on the 91 near Magnolia Avenue at about 90 miles per hour, according to the CHP.

Genevieve Y. Sanchez, 27, of Riverside, was driving a 1997 Ford Expedition at about 65 mph, to the right of Hyde, the CHP reported. Hyde drove alongside Sanchez, made an unsafe lane change and side-swiped the Expedition

"After the impact, Hyde attempted to flee the scene by making a hard right turn in an attempt to exit the freeway at a near by off ramp," CHP Officer Steve Carapia said in a statement. "Hyde missed the off ramp, traveling off the road and overturning. Hyde being unrestrained was ejected from her roll over vehicle and was pinned underneath."

Investigation showed Hyde was texting while driving at the time of the collision, Carapia said.

Sanchez sustained minor injuries. Her passenger, Adeline Robles, 22, of Riverside, was transported to Riverside Community Hospital with minor injuries, Carapia said.

An investigation was continuing. Anyone with further information was urged to call the Riverside CHP office at 951-637-8000.
