Newport Burglary Suspect Nabbed

A 47-year-old Corona man is accused of as many as 30 break-ins around Newport Beach.

A 47-year-old Corona man was behind bars Thursday on suspicion of a string of burglaries in and around Newport Beach, police said.

Richard Kevin Rocha was arrested as he left his home Wednesday and was booked on suspicion of burglary, according to Kathy Lowe of the Newport Beach Police Department.

Investigators suspect Rocha in at least three burglaries, and as many as 30, during the past several months, Lowe told City News Service.

Police set up surveillance in the West Newport Beach area because of a series of late night break-ins since 2009 in which burglars got in through unlocked doors or windows and took laptop computers, Lowe said.

Rocha was jailed in Orange County in lieu of $500,000 bail, according to records.
