A Newport Beach thief made off with … two outdoor trash cans?

A family that lives in the 100 block of 40th Street went on vacation from March 25 until Wednesday, according to a Newport Beach Police Department press release.

When they returned, they discovered several items missing from their home, including jewelry, a bike that had been left in the living room, and yes, two outdoor trash cans.

There was no signs of forced entry into the home.

The Newport Beach Police Department wants to remind residents that if you go on vacation and you return home to find a door that leads into your home locked – and you are certain that you left it unlocked – do not go inside.

Call 911, says the Newport Beach PD. Burglars often lock this door to slow down a victim, allowing the burglar extra time to get out of the home before the resident enters.
