Police Urge Residents to Close Garage Doors

Police say a few tips can safeguard your property.

Newport Beach police report thousands of dollars worth of property are stolen every year due to residents leaving their garages open.

According to police, most of these thefts occur during the day, when garage doors are left open and unattended. In an effort to prevent thieves from being attracted to your residence, police suggest the following tips:

  • Close your garage door all the time, day or night.
  • Keep the pedestrian door locked.
  • Lock your vehicle when you park in the garage.
  • Lock your bike to a stationary object within your garage, and record your bike's serial number and get it licensed at the police department.
