Money, Safes, Jewelry Stolen from Newport Home

A suspect burglarized a home Monday in the 1000 block of Santiago Drive.

A suspect broke into a Newport Beach home this week after getting in through a laundry room door and stealing a key sitting on the washing machine, police reported.

The burglary took place on Monday, sometime between 9:30 a.m. and 6:30 p.m., at a home in the 1000 block of Santiago Drive. According to police, the suspect cut a partially open window on the laundry room door, reached in and grabbed a key that was sitting on the washing machine. The suspect then used the key to unlock the door and go inside the home.

Police said the suspect rummaged through the bedrooms, closets and drawers, and stole jewelry, money and two safes.  The suspect left the house through the back door and ran away down the hill, according to police.
