Men Arrested After Resident Interrupts Home Burglary

The incident occurred at a home on Cameo Highlands Drive.

Two men were arrested over the weekend after a resident surprised them while they were burglarizing his home, Newport Beach police said today.

Taveres O’Shawn Spriggs, 32, of Lomita and Harry Lee Gradney III, 22, of Houston, Texas, were each charged with residential burglary, according to Kathy Lowe, police spokeswoman. The arrests were made following an incident Friday about 11:50 a.m. at a home in the 700 block of Cameo Highlands Drive.

"The resident who was upstairs in his home at the time heard noises coming from the rear of his residence," Lowe said in a released statement. "He observed the two suspects inside his home and yelled out to them."

The men fled the home in a black vehicle and the resident called 911, giving police a description of them and the getaway car. Responding officers located the suspects driving westbound on East Coast Highway at Iris Avenue, and initiated a traffic stop, Lowe said.
