Man Struck, Killed by Supected Drunken Driver ID'd

A Newport Coast woman was arrested on suspicion of gross vehicular manslaughter under the influence.

The coroner's office has identified the man struck and killed in Newport Beach on Monday night by a suspected drunken driver as Amine Britel.

Britel, 41, was riding a bicycle near San Joaquin Hills Road and Spy Glass Hill Road about 6 p.m. Monday when he was struck by a Volkswagen Jetta driven by Danae Miller, 22, of Newport Coast, police said.

Britel died at the scene, police said. His city of residence was not immediately known.

Miller was arrested on suspicion of gross vehicular manslaughter under the influence.

The investigation is ongoing. Police ask anyone with information to call Investigator Todd Bush at 949-644-3746.
