The body of an 82-year-old man was found Sunday on the rocks at the water line at 40th Street and the beach, Newport Beach police reported.

An elderly man's body was found Sunday at the 40th Street rock jetty in Newport Beach, but police say foul play is not suspected in his death.

The Newport Beach Police Department received a call at 2:30 p.m. about a dead body on the rocks at the water line at 40th Street and the beach, Kathy Lowe, police spokeswoman said. Responding lifeguards and police officers brought the man's body to shore. Police say the victim was 82-years-old, but his name is being withheld pending notification of his family.

"At the time of the discovery he was fully clothed and appeared to have been in the water for a short period of time," Lowe said in a released statement. "There were no obvious signs of trauma to the body, and foul play is not suspected in his death."
