A man's body was found Tuesday afternoon down by the Newport Beach Pier, and police believe it was a suicide that involved a gun, a police spokeswoman said.
The man, whose name and age were not immediately released, was found about 12:50 p.m. near the Newport Pier, according to police spokeswoman Jennifer Manzella.
"We got a call from a concerned friend of the man, so officers went out and ended up locating him by the pier," Manzella said. "Unfortunately all signs point to suicide."
The initial call about the incident came into Newport Beach police about 11:21 a.m.
