Man Arrested for Alleged Home Burglaries

A man was arrested over the weekend after he allegedly got caught by a security guard trying to break into a Newport Beach home, police reported.

Larry Lee Everett, 57, of Orange, was arrested on Saturday around 7 p.m. after a private security guard called police and said he detained Everett after he tried to climb a backyard gate and break into a home in the 4600 block of Brighton Road. According to police, Everett's backpack contained burglary tools, including a grappling hook, gloves and a pry bar.

"Everett is believed to be a professional burglar targeting affluent communities, high-end homes, and expensive jewelry," police spokeswoman Jennifer Manzella said in a released statement.

Everett was arrested for attempted residential burglary and detectives will request that he is also charged with possession of burglary tools, police reported.

Everett was being held on $50,000 bail, in addition to two burglary warrants in the amounts of $50,000 and $1,000,000.

Anyone who may have additional information on this case is asked to call Det. Dave Darling at 949-644-3799 or the Newport Beach Police Department Hotline at 1-800-550-NBPD. Messages can be left anonymously.
