LAX Shooting Disrupts Local Air Travel

A shooting at LAX that left three people injured Friday morning disrupted travel across the region, with many flights canceled or diverted to other airports.

Officials at Orange County's John Wayne International Airport said it remains open and operating normally. Jenny Wedge, airport spokeswoman, said  Orange County residents should check with their airline for any flight impacts.

"Any flights being diverted away from LAX will likely go to Burbank and Ontario. Should that change, we will update our Twitter status," Wedge said. "Airport  police services and our security partners continue to monitor the situation at LAX."

Over in Long Beach, police say the Long Beach Airport is open, but with "heightened security," and travelers are being urged to allow extra time.

A suspect possibly armed with an assault rifle opened fire inside Terminal 3 at LAX, wounding at least three people before being shot and taken into custody.
