A gas leak in the area of Quail Street between Birch Street and Newport Plaza is prompting Newport Beach police to shut down the area to traffic.
In an alert, the Newport Beach Police Department advises the public to stay away from the area.
"Westerly is also closed between Dove and Birch. Additional side streets may be impacted," the alert states.
