Friends of Crystal Morales Plan More Fundraisers

The 17-year-old is still in the hospital and recovering from serious injuries she suffered on Dec. 6 after being struck by a Chevy Tahoe in a crosswalk.

It's been a month since was hit by an SUV while in a crosswalk near Newport Harbor High School. While the 17-year-old remains hospitalized, her friends continue working to raise money for her .

Alexandra Holbrook, a friend and classmate of the Newport Harbor High School senior, says recent fundraisers generated around $15,000 and additional fundraisers with local restaurants are in the works and should be finalized within a few weeks.

"We have raised $15,400 and we couldn't be more stoked," Holbrook said. "Crystal has been moved to CHOC hospital and has had surgery on her broken hips and is in a lot of pain. She has some short term memory loss but is on the right track, they say, for recovery."

Holbrook also said Crystal will not be able to finish her senior year at Newport Harbor High School. She suffered head trauma, internal bleeding and brain swelling ain a crosswalk on Dec. 6.

Marnie Jo Lippincott , the woman accussed of driving under the influence and causing the crosswalk crash, to a felony charge of driving under the influence causing bodily injury, with a sentencing enhancement for causing brain injury. She remains out of jail on $100,000 bond and is scheduled to return to court Feb. 17 for a pretrial hearing.
