The California Highway Patrol also reported two traffic fatalities. The arrest and fatality counts span a period from 6:01 p.m. Wednesday through 6 a.m. Sunday, an extended holiday weekend in 2013.

Last year, in a shortened Fourth of July period, the CHP reported just 28 arrests and no fatalities.

Statewide, there have been more than 1,400 arrests and 29 fatalities since Wednesday.
