Electrical Fire Damages Newport Beach Home

Fire investigators say the blaze caused about $100,000 of damage.

A fire broke out at a home in Newport Beach, but no one was injured, a fire official reported.

The fire broke out about 5:26 a.m. Wednesday at a home on Port Albans Place, according to Jennifer Schulz, of the Newport Beach Fire Department. It was reported to fire officials by a neighbor who lives on Port Cardigan and is a Newport Beach CERT member, after he noticed smoke and flames coming from the home.

Responding firefighters found heavy smoke and flames coming from the roof of the home and heavy fire in the attic starting to fill the home. They were able to extinguish the fire quickly and kept it from spreading to other homes.

“Even with the extreme fire conditions in the attic, we were able to complete a search for potential victims and confirm that the home was empty”, said Fire Captain Nic Lucas.

The fire caused $100,000 of damage to the house, especially in the roof and attic area. The home had been under renovation and a family was scheduled to move in before Thanksgiving, Schulz said.

The specific cause of the fire is under investigation, but fire investigators say it started in the attic and appeared to be electrical in nature.
