Update: Elderly Woman Dies in Newport House Fire

Mary Louise Phillips, 90, was killed Wednesday when a fire broke out at her home on Heather Lane in Newport Beach.

The woman killed in a Newport Beach house fire on Wednesday was identified today as 90-year-old Mary Louise Phillips, police said.

The fire broke out at about 10:41 a.m. Wednesday at the Phillips' home in the 200 block Heather Lane, near Irvine Avenue, according to Fire Battalion Chief Chip Duncan. The fire was knocked down at 11:18 a.m.

"In the course of a search of the building we located an adult deceased female," Duncan told Patch.

Newport Beach police spokeswoman Kathy Lowe said the fire, which was ruled accidental, was most likely electrical in nature.

Duncan said 33 firefighters battled the fatal fire.
