Fatal Accident Closes PCH in Corona del Mar

The driver was suspected of being under the influence, police said.

A male pedestrian was struck and killed in Corona del Mar by a pickup truck driven by a driver suspected of being under the influence, police said Thursday.

The unidentified pedestrian was struck by the westbound pickup truck in the 4200 block of Pacific Coast Highway around 9:30 p.m. Thursday, Newport Beach Police Department Sgt. Corey Wolik said.

Police were advising motorists to avoid westbound PCH at Morning Canyon for the next six hours because of the accident.

The male driver was arrested for suspicion of driving under the influence, Wolik said.
