In a federal lawsuit filed against Newport Beach police, Zachary McEligot alleges several high ranking police officials accepted freebies from the Island Hotel in exchange for favors.

A lawsuit filed last week by an ex-Newport Beach parking control officer accuses several high-ranking police department officials of accepting free food and alcohol from the Island Hotel, in exchange for giving special favors, according to a report in OC Weekly.

In a federal lawsuit filed on Sept. 23 against the Newport Beach Police Department, Zachary McEligot claims he was fired after he pointed the finger at high-ranking officers who were trading favors at the Island Hotel, OC Weekly reported. According to the lawsuit, McEligot alleges the officers would clear parking tickets and immediately issue licenses to the hotel's massage therapists, in exchange for free suites, food, alcohol and other services.

McEligot said after he reported the misuse of the Island Hotel by Newport Beach police officers, he was retaliated against, characterized as "dishonest and incompetent" and was ultimately terminated, according to the OC Weekly report.
