Update: Elderly Man Found Safe in the Back Bay

Police say Gordon Gilbert Breecher was missing for several hours on Monday, but was found by a police volunteer in the Back Bay.

An elderly Newport Beach man who suffers from dementia and went missing early Monday, was found by a search volunteer in the Back Bay area, a police official said.

Gordon Gilbert Breecher, 78, was located at 5:50 p.m. in some heavy brush north of Back Bay Drive by search volunteer Richard Simon, according to police spokeswoman Kathy Lowe.

"He is currently being assessed by Newport Beach Fire Department paramedics," Lowe said. "His family has been notified."

Breecher was reported missing at 9:45 a.m. by his wife. She last saw him at 7:30 a.m. in the 500 block of Vista Flora in the Eastbluff neighborhood.
