Update: Coroner Identifies Dead Body Found Near Balboa Pier

The death of Nino Nobles remains under investigation but "doesn't appear to have been an intentional act," police say.

The man who was found dead on the beach near the Balboa Pier Wednesday afternoon was identified as an Irvine resident, officials said.

Supervising Deputy Coroner Larry Esslinger said Nino Nobles, 49, was the man found in the area of Coronado Street and East Ocean Front near Tower C about 5:30 p.m.

Police say the man's body did not wash ashore, and there was no indication the man was in the water prior to his death.

"We don't have much information at this point," said Newport Beach police Lt. Bill Hartford. "All we know is that it doesn't appear to have been an intentional act."

An autposy was done Thursday. The coroner will determine the official cause of death following toxicology results which could take a few weeks, Esslinger said.
