Coroner IDs Irvine Man Killed in PCH Crash

Passenger Erik Valencia, 29, was killed Sunday afternoon in a five-car crash that shut down Pacific Coast Highway in Laguna Beach for several hours.

An Irvine man was killed Sunday in a five car crash that shut down Pacific Coast Highway in Laguna Beach for several hours, the Orange County coroner's office reported.

Erik Valencia, 29, was the passenger in a car that lost control and struck a truck, the coroner's report said. The deadly crash happened at about 1:30 p.m. Sunday on North Coast Highway and Irvine Cove Drive, Laguna Beach police reported.

Five other people were injured in the crash, and hospitalized with injuries ranging from minor to severe.

PCH was closed in both directions for the majority of Sunday, and was opened just after 11 p.m.

The crash remains under investigation.
