Corona del Mar Teen Falls out of Bus Window on Her Way to Prom

The girl landed in traffic lanes and then crawled or ran to the center divider, the CHP reported.

A 17-year-old girl fell out the window of a chartered bus taking 55 Corona Del Mar High School students to their prom in Mission Viejo, and suffered only minor injuries as she landed on a toll freeway and ran to the median.

"I was in complete shock. My shoe broke off, my phone flew from me," she told coronadelmartoday.com, a local web site.

The accident was about 7:20 p.m. Saturday on southbound Route 73, the San Joaquin Hills Toll Road, approaching Newport Coast Drive, according to the California Highway Patrol.

The girl fell through a window on the left side of the bus, landed in traffic lanes and then crawled or ran to the center divider, the CHP reported.

Firefighters were summoned and took the girl to a hospital, according to the CHP, which reported that she suffered injuries to her feet, back, tail bone and right arm.

The girl was identified as Charlotte Boyse, according to coronadelmartoday.com.

The bus had inward facing seats and Boyse leaned back against a window to let someone pass, but the window opened on its hinge and she fell out, according to her father, Conrad Boyse.

Two other girls grabbed Boyse as she fell and probably kept her from landing on her head, her father said. She landed on her backside, likely avoiding more serious injury, he said.

Coronadelmartoday.com reported that the bus driver wouldn't let other students off the bus after he pulled over, but some of them climbed through the same window Boyse fell from and ran down the freeway to her.
