Cop Calls: Vehicle Burglaries in Newport Beach

In one case a thief smashed a car's window and took off with a purse and a laptop.

Newport Beach police issued a crime alert this week to notify residents about vehicle burglaries that occurred around the city.

  • Police say an unknown suspect targeted a car in the 8100 block of E. Coast Highway on Sunday, May 13 between 5 and 11 p.m. The victim reported the window being smashed and a purse and laptop missing from the car.
  • Between Thursday, May 10 and Friday, May 11 an unknown suspect targeted an unlocked car at a parking lot in the 23000 block of Newport Coast Dr. The victim reported missing money, two pairs of reading glasses and a handicap placard.
  • Police say sometime between Monday, May 7 and Tuesday, May 8 an unknown suspect entered an unlocked car on Dunes Bluff and stole a wallet.

Vehicle Safety Tips:

  • Take valuables out: Remove all valuable from plain sight or hide them before arriving at your destination.
  • Lock your vehicle: Verify your vehicle is securely locked before leaving the area.
  • Close your windows: An open window or sunroof allows for quick entry into your vehicle by a thief – Always check that they are completely shut before leaving your vehicle.
