Cop Calls: Car Burglaries in Newport Beach

In once case, a suspect smashed a car's window with a rock.

Two cars in Newport Beach were targeted by thieves this week, police reported.

On Tuesday around 1:20 a.m. an unknown suspect opened opened the driver's side door of a car parked on Wentworth. Police say the suspect was possibly trying to steal a portable navigation system, but was scared off when the car's alarm was triggered.

Sometime between 9 p.m. Monday and 7:15 a.m. Tuesday, an unknown supect used a large rock to smash the front passenger window of a car parked on Montgomery. Police say the suspect stole a purse that was inside.
