A little history here' I have posted many notes regarding the increasse in break ins , auto robberies ,and the list goes on. I have had a telephone call with the Chief and the PR department on this serious issue. It seems that almost every few days , their is another incident and the police always say KEEP your doors and any entry points locked. I asked on three different occasions for the " numbers " of incidents in the " area that The Newport Department patrol , from last year and compared to this year, To me that has not been forth comming. I believe if we all can remember the PD has had it's problems over the last few years. I have suggested to the the Chief that we need an outside evaluation of what is being done right or wrong to reduce these and other problems, by experts who have no benefit from their evaluations. The issues started with grab and bag items leftm in on locked doors, garages etc to robberies happening while residents are in their HOME. Now residents are putting valuables in safe deposite boxes where the items see the inside of safe deposite boxes. Their are residents who pay to have their home guraded 24-7 whie on vacation. Gun sales have increased and the last thing I want is a neighbor shooting at a kid and hitting me. Folks this situation is serious and worries me and should worry all of us. I also talked about the evaluation, by professionals ! If this Dept can't handle the problem , possible we need a new administration.
