3 DUI Arrests Made at Newport Checkpoint

More than 500 cars passed through Friday's checkpoint on northbound Dover Drive and 16th Street.

A sobriety checkpoint Friday night on Dover Drive at 16th Street netted three DUI arrests, a police official reported today.

A total of 577 vehicles passed through the checkpoint, which started at 8:00 p.m. and ran through 3 a.m Friday, according to Kathy Lowe, police spokeswoman. Of those, 40 drivers were screened. Five citations were handed out for various violations and three drivers were arrested for drunken driving.
