Car Burglaries Spike in Newport Coast

Burglars smash windows to get into cars parked in Newport Coast. Several items are stolen from seven cars.

Seven cars, some of which were unlocked, were burglarized early Wednesday in Newport Coast, police reported.

According to police, several items were stolen from three unlocked cars parked within a gated community on Tidal Surf, Sable Sands and Windemere Court. Four other cars parked on Ridge Park Road and Ziani were burglarized when a suspect broke a window to get into each car. Newport Beach police said the crimes happened early Wednesday morning, or overnight.

Purses, laptops, a cell phone, a gold ring, cash, change, a driver's license, passports and a backpack were stolen from the cars, police reported.

· Lock and secure all doors and windows even if you’re gone for only a few minutes.

· Don’t leave valuables in your vehicle. If you cannot take them with you, conceal them from view prior to arriving at your destination.

· When parking outside of your garage, treat your garage door opener as if it were a key to your home and remove it from your vehicle.

· If your vehicle has an alarm always activate it!

· Always park your vehicle in a well-lit area.
