Burglaries Spike in Cameo Community

Two homes in the Cameo Community were broken into last week, prompting Newport Beach police to issue a crime alert.

The first burglary took place sometime between Dec. 7 and Dec. 14 at a home in the 700 block of Rockford Road. According to police, the suspect climbed over a perimeter fence and tried to break into the house through a back French door.

The door was locked with a double cylinder deadbolt lock, so the suspect went to a side bedroom widow, broke it and climbed into the home, police reported. The resident reported jewelry stolen from the home.

The second burglary took place on Dec. 11 at a home in the 4800 block of Dorchester. According to police, the suspect entered the home possibly through an unlocked front door. Once inside, the suspect ransacked the master bedroom and stole jewelry and money from the home.
