Burglar Forces Open Second Story Window

Burglaries on Fourth and Fernleaf avenues were recently reported in Newport Beach.

Jewelry, a purse and a bike were recently stolen from homes in Newport Beach, police reported.

Police encourage residents to lock windows and doors at all times to decrease the chance of becoming a victim of a burglary.

  • Police said on Thursday, March 21 between 1 and 1:40 p.m. a home in the 2900 block of Fourth Ave. was burglarized. Police said an unknown suspect forced open a second story window, crawled into the home and stole jewelry and a purse from the master bedroom.
  • Sometime between Saturday, March 16 and March 18, an unknown suspect entered an unlocked garage in the 200 block of Fernleaf Ave. Police said the suspect went in through an unsecured side door and stole a bike.

- Close and lock all doors, windows and garage door.

- All exterior doors should be equipped with a deadbolt lock, which should always be used have a security strike plate, attached with a minimum of two, three inch screws.

- If you have an alarm, always activate it when you are away.

- Use photo cells or timers to turn both interior and exterior lights on and off.

- If you are going to be out of town, ask a trusted friend or neighbor to check on your home and pick up your mail. Signup for a vacation check from the police department at www.nbpd.org.
